The department of Political Science, Puthimari College organised a Basic Training Program on Human Rights on 16th March,2018 sponsored by the National Human Rights Commission. The program aimed for the students was inaugurated by the HoD Debananda Sarma. The program was graced by four eminent personalities in four technical sessions as resource persons.

Dr.Ripima Buzarbaruah of Suren Das College, Hajo provided a brief profile about the basic concept of Human Rights, it's history as well as the implication and application of these rights at international and national context.

Columnist Parvin Sultana of Pramathesh Barua College, Gauripur addressed the issues related to women's and children's rights. With the simple explanation of the theoretical concepts, she also took part in the interaction with the students regarding the gap between theory and practice and the challenges and duties regarding women's and children's rights in India.

One of the prominent human rights activists Banamallika Chaudhury, in her session tried to draw a picture before the students about how the countries work towards protecting the human rights of the fellow citizens under the international human rights frameworks. She appealed the students to nurture a broader view of human rights free from boundaries like national, gender, race, religion,caste etc. Besides, she also took part in discussion with the students regarding the possibilities of taking human rights as a career in future.

In his session, writer, activist as well as advocate of Gauhati High Court, Kishor Kumar Kalita mainly focussed on Land, land rights and other related issues. The brainstorming session also includes Q&A with the students regarding the challenges coming to land rights in the near future.

The program was attended by the former teachers and staff of the college along with the present ones; ex students and a couple of other personalities. At the end,  Sujata HatiBaruah, the co-ordinator of the program presented vote of thanks to all who contributed towards the success of the program.
